In December 2017 we were contacted by student filmmaker Sonia Singh who was making a short film exploring the feeling of being proud, being LGBTQI+ and being Muslim.
Over the next few weeks we became friends and Sonia interviewed Matt and also joined him as he travelled to Birmingham to attend a Christmas party organised by Hidayah – a new organisation set up to “ensure that the voices of LGBTI+ Muslims are heard and understood.”
Muslim PRIDE details the struggles faced every day by LGBTQI+ Muslims who are often at times unable to come out to their own parents and communities.

Matt set up the Naz and Matt Foundation in memory of his soulmate and fiancé, Naz, who passed away two days after being confronted about his sexuality by his religious parents. It was the first time that they knew their son was gay, in a relationship with Matt for 13 years and that they were planning to get married.
