As part of LGBTHistoryMonth 2018 I am proud, and incredibly humbled to be invited by the University of Birmingham Medical School (where my darling Naz trained to be a doctor) to deliver a talk titled “Be the person you were born to be: Homosexuality, religion and coming out“.
Proceeding my 40 minute talk I showed a short film about Naz and my experiences. My talk was followed by an open question and answer session featuring a fantastic panel of guests with individuals from from the wider LGBTQI+ community, University Chaplaincy, a young adult psychiatrist and others.
We discussed how different cultures, faiths and religions connect and disconnect from homosexuality and the struggle many inviduals experience finding acceptance from their parents.
