We were delighted to be invited to take part in a monthly LGBT+ drop by our friends at Forum+.
The drop ins are a great opportunity for local groups, organisations and charities to meet members of the LGBTQI+ community over coffee, biscuits and lunch. The sessions are open, informal and welcoming, taking place at the magnificent Union Chapel in Islington.
We were joined the inspirational Aloysius Ssali and his team from the Say It Loud Club. Aloysius is a Ugandan gay activist, who set up the organisation in 201o to support LGBTQA+ refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
About Say It Loud Club
Newly arrived LGBT+ refugees have overcome incredible challenges to call the UK their home. The only organisation of our kind, our mission is to give as many LGBT+ refugees who are seeking asylum the support, community and legal aid they need to enable their freedom in the UK.
Forum+ is an independent charity working to improve the lives of LGBT in Camden, Islington and the surrounding boroughs. We aim to promote equality and diversity by the elimination of discrimination in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people living, working, socialising and/or studying in Camden and Islington and, where appropriate, neighbouring boroughs and London.
Matt set up the Naz and Matt Foundation in memory of his soulmate and fiancé, Naz, who passed away two days after being confronted about his sexuality by his religious parents. It was the first time that they knew their son was gay, in a relationship with Matt for 13 years and that they were planning to get married.
