As part of our Foundation’s tour of schools in Bradford, Matt was shadowed by BBC Asian Network’s Shabnam Mahmood as he talked to a packed room of students at a local Bradford school.
Joining Matt was Ahmer Bashir who recently ‘came out’ and has since gone on to set up Project Light UK, an organisation that uses storytelling to fight prejudice.
“They are hoping to provide support for young people who may be forced to hide their sexuality because of religion and culture.” Asian Network’s Shabnam Mahmood reports.
Matt set up the Naz and Matt Foundation in memory of his soulmate and fiancé, Naz, who passed away two days after being confronted about his sexuality by his religious parents. It was the first time that they knew their son was gay, in a relationship with Matt for 13 years and that they were planning to get married.
